Hallowed Hundred
starOur second annual "Church of the Holy Trail" 100! Here's the GPS track from last year: http://www.strava.com/activities/212584775 Here's the general route: Start at Starbucks Coffee at Broadway & Baseline in Boulder at 7:00 AM (plenty of neighborhood parking available on the west side of Broadway, south of Baseline). Head up on foot to Chautauqua, and continue up Gregory Canyon to cross Flagstaff Road at Realization Point (about mile 3). Head down Chapman Road to cross Boulder Canyon (mile 6). Go up Boulder Canyon to the link trail into Betasso, and go all the way through Betasso and Benjamin, out the link trail to Fourmile Canyon (mile 12). Head up Fourmile into Salina, and take the Church Road up to cross Sunshine Canyon, and continue through the town of Sunshine and to Sunshine Saddle (mile 16). Cruise down the trail into Lefthand Canyon, across that, up onto Gold Ridge, down through Spring Gulch, and up into Ward (mile 30). Pause briefly in Ward to resupply food. Head north out of Ward and take CR100 and CR103 out to cross Peak-to-Peak into the South St. Vrain trail (mile 33). Take that to catch the North Sourdough, and go south on Sourdough to the South Sourdough Trailhead (mile 43). Head up Rainbow Lakes Road to FR505 to the Caribou Townsite (mile 49). Head down Caribou Road into Nederland (mile 54). Maybe get a bite here if anything's open, but that's unlikely. From Ned, go out towards the high school to take the Sugar Magnolia trail into the West Magnolia trails. Head through them into Rollinsville (mile 60). Go south on Peak-to-Peak to CR12 to CR13 to Peak-to-Peak again to Gap Road into Golden Gate Canyon State Park (mile 66). Go all the way through the park on trails to Red Barn (mile 76). Head down Drew Hill Road to Belcher Road into White Ranch (mile 82). Go through the trails of White Ranch, and out 56th Avenue to cross 93 (mile 88). Head east on 58th Avenue and south into Table Mountain. Go all the way over Table Mountain, and down into central Golden (mile 94). Go to the Jefferson County Government Center (mile 97), and get on the light rail into Denver, to catch the B bus back to our starting point. My distance estimates come up 3 miles short. Something tells me it'll end up being a full hundred. :-) As always, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join for as much or as little as they'll enjoy (be kind to your loved ones this week, and perhaps they'll come get you this weekend!). Our pace will be mellow, and no one will be left behind unless they speak of reelecting Lisa Morzel. :-) The weather forecast is looking mighty fine, and our pricing model is looking cheaper than a used Volkswagen diesel! Regardless, be brainy, and bring what you'll need to be comfortable for the distance you choose to go. For the whole shebang, don't forget plenty of clothing (we'll spend a fair bit of time at night above 10,000' altitude), lights, water treatment/filtration/sterilization, and cash for food in Ward and $5 for RTD back to our starting point. If any ham radio operators out there are reading this (yes, YOU!), I'll call in on the Rocky Mountain Hams repeater on Mt. Thorodin on 449.225 MHz at the top of every even hour, when I can reach the repeater. I'm KG0UL. Night owls encouraged, offering us encouraging words at midnight, 2am, 4am, etc. -------------------------------------------------- Lovely "Native American Summer" greetings, fellow cherubs of the "Holy Trail"! Oh dear, how has it happened so quickly? The deities of our fair hillocks are quickly turning our local leaves funny colors, dispensing of mosquitoes like Chinese dissidents, and even offering bits of fluffy white goodness in the shade up on Niwot Ridge yesterday! Sure as can be, our sweet local storefronts are filling with snowshovels and Halloween candy, just as the suicidal CU student cyclists are met with the bait-and-switch of safety on Folsom -- ha! Well fear not, fair chillun, for the Divine Universe has a Plan for all that caloric consumption wreaked upon us by the demons at the Hershey Chocolate empire! Yes indeedy, the time has come again for the cheapest all-night gym membership ya ever did see! Why spend a weekend merely binge-watching "Sons of Anarchy", when we can instead *BE* the "Walking Dead"?! Sure enough, the splendid citizens of Nederland and Rollinsville will witness the Zombie Apocalypse, as we come traipsing through their fair burgs at oh-dark-thirty in the morning, getting our "Church" services started in earnest, earlier than usual! Clearly, there's really no shortage of atonement to be tallied up on our scorecards at the Pearly Gates, and ol' Saint Pete is gonna be checking us out, doing background checks, and tacking on extra penance for our mere residence in the State of Colorado. The gods and goddesses of the "Holy Trail" implore us in earnest to get out there, and git 'r done! Here's the scoop: The details are above, in all their frighteningly frugal truthfulness. Yup, you read it right. This is the Big Momma "Church" adventure of the year. From here, it's all a slow reversion to the same ol' postholing and recycled jokes in the cold darkness, all winter long. While that's a darn fun time, THIS weekend is the one we'll be telling stories about, all winter long! Some will be true, most will be total BS, and the only way to know for real will be to show up, and be there! So well, here goes nothing... Be there or be talked about,
